A Herbivorous Dragon of 5,000 Years Gets Unfairly Villainized
2022 · 5 years ago
Five years ago, we watched a 5,000-year-old vegetarian dragon accidentally launch a hero's journey. It is a subversion of the 'demon king' trope that finds humor in the gap between perception and reality.

A peaceful dragon, perfectly content with his quiet life, is confronted by a girl who insists on being sacrificed to him. To get rid of her, he plays the role of a terrifying demon lord, a lie that inadvertently awakens her latent powers and ends his tranquil days forever.
The show thrives on the irony of its lead, a creature who just wants a nap being forced into an epic fantasy conflict. The dynamic between the weary dragon and the over-enthusiastic girl provides a constant stream of dry, comedic friction.
Five years later, the series remains a fun, short romp for those who appreciate fantasy tropes turned on their head. It is a lighthearted adventure that succeeds because it never takes its own grand title seriously.
